Chooks Heads

Before you pass judgment on this photo - know that Morgan is going though a phase of "I'm not interested, I'm going to look bored" I was convinced that this was a teenage boy thing - but apparently it stretches backward to this age group. he was actually delighted and enthusiastic the whole time we were doing the chooks.

These two old girls weren't laying eggs, so got the chop up at grandmas. They kids were fascinated by the headless chooks and in feeding the heads to the dogs.

They were equally amazed at the speed in which the hens were plucked - grandma has done thousands in her time, and had some anatomy lessons as she pulled the guts and innards out. You can imagine how interested they were when some tiny eggs were found inside. Lilly is pictured holding two.

I refuse to be precious about things with the kids - they know if they are eating meat - what animal they are eating and its important that they learn the cycle of life, how to kill their own meat and take responsibility for taking that life. At grandmas a common question includes " What part of the cow are we eating?" followed by an anatomy lesson.
