Packing Day

Today was packing day for the Basket Brigade and part of our family tradition to make Christmas come alive for us. For those who don't know about it.

The Basket Brigade is founded on a simple notion: one act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds. Tony Robbins started it off about 30 years ago - his story alone - even though I have heard it scores of times- brings tears to my eyes.

Throughout the Christmas holiday season, in over 200 cities across the globe, International Basket Brigade volunteers will deliver food, gifts and hope to those who need it most and these don't have to be 'poor' or low socio economic folk - its the people who are missed - who fall between the cracks - the struggling owner operator, the family who has a parent seriously ill or recently died - for some reason their Christmas is looking grim and they need a boost - to say that folks out there still care and have love for them.

I was a co-ordinator for 2 years and have been involved with the Charity for nearly 10 years now. Anyways - its great to pretend to be Santa for a day and makes you count your blessings... The people who are receiving the boxes don't know they are getting one - they were nominated anomalously by someone in the community - who know about the Basket Brigade - its all shhh secret squirrel - and quite exciting..
